Issam Kourbaj: Urgent Archive
2 March - 26 May 2024Since 2011 Issam Kourbaj’s artwork has responded to the ongoing conflict in Syria, and reflects on the suffering of his fellow Syrians and the destruction of his cultural heritage. This exhibition presents key works from this period alongside a new series which explores themes of loss, memory and renewal.
Temporary House Closure
From 14 March the house will be closing for approximately 4 weeks whilst we replace the heating and cooling systems. There will also be scaffolding up around Kettle’s Yard for a number of weeks.

Upcoming Events
Adult Bread and Art Workshop – Rising, Together
Join artist Issam Kourbaj for a workshop to explore the practice of bread-making. We will open a reflective and discursive space to knead and fold in embodied memories and inherited tales around bread. The Arabic word for bread is 'Aish', which also means 'life' and 'to live'. These will be key themes that we explore in this workshop.
In Conversation: Issam Kourbaj
Join us for a special event in the Kettle's Yard house, where artist Issam Kourbaj will be in conversation with exhibition curator Guy Haywood.
Agenda Project 1: Yevheniia Laptii
We are pleased to present a new project 'Agenda', which sees a singular artwork presented on the second floor of Kettle's Yard responding to the contemporary moment. The first iteration of the project will display the photograph Deti (2023) by Ukrainian photographer Yevheniia Laptii.
