Kettle’s Yard: Looking Ahead, is the new development planned for Kettle’s Yard that is due to commence in September 2015. This major capital project will create a new education wing, environmentally controlled galleries, and better and more accessible services for visitors, including a cafe. It will allow us to renew Kettle’s Yard so it can continue to inspire successive generations with a love of the visual arts and music. The project has been nearly 8 years in preparation but a constant throughout this has been the architect, Jamie Fobert and his vision for the future of Kettle’s Yard.
In the autumn of 2014, Jamie, gave a presentation to the capital donors and Friends of Kettle’s Yard about the plans for Kettle’s Yard Looking Ahead. The evening was an informative occasion that brought together architectural plans, both past and present, Jamie’s architectural drawings and visualisations, combined with images from the Kettle’s Yard archive and Jamie’s eloquent narrative of his process. We were guided by him through the many past extensions and additions to Kettle’s Yard that have happened over the years and shown how his plans build upon the Leslie Martin architectural foundations whilst at the same time creating something new that can exist in harmony with them and Kettle’s Yard as a whole. The audience left with a far greater understanding of the development and an overwhelming sense of Jamie’s commitment and sensitivity to the unique ethos and history of Kettle’s Yard.
Above is a recording of the talk that we hope you will find interesting and informative. If you have any questions regarding Kettle’s Yard Looking Ahead or if you would like to make a donation to the project please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
