After the initial week of getting settled in and finding my way around Cambridge (as well as visiting many of the fantastic museums, colleges and cultural sites at my disposal) my first task was (and still is!) to create a spread sheet to help update the online collection database and organise the curatorial teams collection research. It is giving me a greater knowledge of Kettle’s Yard’s collection and curatorial research process. Possibly the first time I have actually quite enjoyed making a spread sheet!
I have also been tasked with researching artists and their past shows for possible future Kettle’s Yard exhibitions.
A more hands on experience was my visit to the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings to observe the temporary Kettle’s Yard exhibition Horizons being set up as well as partaking in an items check myself. This again gave me a greater insight in to the curatorial world than I had ever had before. A good days work!
Most recently I have been sitting in organisational meetings with the Kettle’s Yard and Circuit teams while they plan the Unlock Cambridge festival. Seeing the inner workings of organising an arts festival has been interesting and I have at times been able to contribute due to my own experience in event organising. I helped to promote the festival at the Anglia Ruskin Freshers Fair and gave my technical support on the day too.
I am really enjoying myself so far and have been made really welcome and made to feel like one of the team!
