Do you have a favourite place? The East Contemporary Visual Arts Network (ECVAN) has launched New Geographies, an open-call for people to nominate unexpected places they find meaningful or interesting.
Public nominations will create a new map of the East of England, made up of unusual, overlooked places and shared stories. From beaches to disused shopping centres, to old mines – anywhere and everywhere can be included in the map.
In response to the nominations, ECVAN will commission UK and international artists to create new site-specific work to highlight some of these places. This combination of local knowledge and world-class art seeks to create a new vision of the East of England as a place to encounter excellent art in unexpected places.
Each artwork will be different and unique, but all the projects will be united by their inspiration, which will be taken from local people and their environment. The project offers you the opportunity to explore memories tied with place and to develop these places, using contemporary art to create new experiences within them.
New Geographies are only looking for nominations in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk or Suffolk. Please include an image, if possible, and the reason why you are nominating. Entries will be accepted until 22 October 2017.
