For three days only, young people from Cambridge who previously had not been in employment, education or training opened a shop to sell their unusual and quirky handmade products. The young people are part of the My Gaps programme run by TCHC and worked in partnership with Circuit Cambridge to develop their creative and branding skills and open the shop.
The individuals aged 16-17 put their learning into practice by taking part in Circuit Cambridge art workshops where they have worked as a team to create the branding, identity, design and merchandise for the shop. Working with artist Lyndall Phelps, the young people have built up a range of creative skills – including drawing, print-making and photography. They designed and created everything on sale, set the shop up and ran it, taking over £300 which will be donated to East Anglia’s Childrens Hospices.
