SYMPOSIUM: AGNES MARTIN Between the Lines
14 June, 2.00-6.00pm, £10 (£5 students)

Developing new directions in the interpretation of the work of Agnes Martin

Including a consideration of the part her lesbian sexuality may be seen to play in her particular development of abstraction, and an examination of her links to other women artists of the time. Leading scholars including Professor Briony Fer (University College London) and Professor Jonathan Katz (State University of New York) will present new research and lead discussion on the day.

Woodleigh Room, Lucy Cavendish College followed by a reception and late view of the exhibition at Kettle’s Yard. £10 (£5 students). The late view is free and open to all.

This is a "Women's Word" event, organised in conjunction with Lucy Cavendish College. Tickets will be available from 15 April.

Professor Deanna Petherbridge will examine the cult of the ‘primitive’ body in Modernist art, inspired by a rejection of classicism, an admiration for exotic cultures and the Surrealist embrace of psychoanalysis and the irrational.
