Auction success
We are delighted to report that another step has been taken towards the future development of Kettle's Yard. £374,500 has been raised through the Sotheby's sale of works in aid of Kettle's Yard on 25 May 2011. The works were donated by artists and had previously been shown in the Artists for Kettle's Yard exhibition. Stock, by Antony Gormley did particularly well, reaching £40,000 over its top estimate. Together with proceeds from the exhibition at Kettle's Yard and FOUND, the pop-up exhibition in London, sales of donated works are set to exceed a grand total of £650,000.
Director of Kettle's Yard, Michael Harrison said
"We are thrilled with the results of the sale at Sotheby's and through the two exhibitions. We are extremely grateful for the generosity shown by the artists who donated works - it was thrilling to see Antony Gormley's sculpture fetch a sum well in excess of it's pre-sale estimate. We are very excited to be one step closer to embarking on the building of a new education wing, an expanded art library, a project gallery and proper collection store at Kettle's Yard. We are pressing ahead with plans to get building under way before the end of the year. The final stage of the Appeal will be to ensure that we shall have the funds to run the new spaces and sustain our programmes."
