New Music Associates

The Camberwell Composers Collective is Mark Bowden, Emily Hall, Chris Mayo, Anna Meredith and Charlie Piper.  Individually well established in their field, the thread that binds them is their desire to bring music to new audiences in new ways.  Since its launch in April 2004, the Collective has thrived as an opportunity for these rising stars to create music without boundaries and present exciting concerts which transcend questions of style and genre to focus on connecting with audiences as directly as possible.

As well as performing their own music, the Collective have joined forces with countless extraordinary musicians including Huw Watkins, Sarah Nicolls, Corrado Canonici, Endymion and Oliver Coates.  The Collective highly value the visual impact of their performances and have presented their works alongside film, animation and live drawing by artists such as BAFTA-winning Ian Gouldstone, Anthony Comley, Max Hattler, Eleanor Meredith and video collective Flat-e. Together with their regular gigs at the Crypt in Camberwell, they have presented their concerts at venues and festivals nationwide including the iF Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Faster than Sound, the National Portrait Gallery, The Bongo Club and Koko.

As individuals, the five members of the Camberwell Composers Collective have won the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize four times, first and second prize at the 10th International Young Composers' Meeting and the Genesis Opera Project.  They have been composers-in-residence at Handel House, Tatton Park and with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.  They have received commissions from top music institutions including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Contemporary Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the Esprit Orchestra, Radio France, W11 Opera, Aldeburgh Productions, Faster than Sound, the London Handel Festival, the London Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Modern and for the Last Night of the Proms.

Upcoming projects include a concert at Faster than Sound at King’s Place on 7 November 2008 and a residency with the Ossian Ensemble.

The Camberwell Composers Collective plans for their 2008-2009 New Music Associateship at Kettle’s Yard include presenting concerts by Max de Wardener, The Elysian Quartet, Oliver Coates, Sarah Nicolls, The Ossian Ensemble and Ensemble Klang.
