Throughout March we are sharing a series of posts in which we meet some of the makers whose work you can find in the Kettle’s Yard Shop. This week we spoke to independent fragrance and lifestyle brand, Join. You can view our Join candles in the shop here.

Tell us a bit more about yourself and Join

Hello! My name is Jen. I’m a nature lover and have just had a baby girl, Lamorna, who is keeping me busy around making organic essential oil home and body products. Join is an independent fragrance and lifestyle brand founded in early 2017. Our adventure started in London where we began handcrafting luxury, organic vegan candles in small batches by the River Thames. We draw inspiration from the British coast and countryside and our ten unique fragrances are inspired by Cornwall where we grew up. All of our effective aromatherapy products are made using the finest essential oils for your wellbeing to soothe skin, open hearts and breathe a greener way of life into homes and families.

Tell us more about your studio and ways of working

Our garden studio is in Suffolk and a hive of activity! We create bespoke aromatherapy blends and handcraft candles, diffusers, botanical mists, soap and skincare products – no two days are the same. We are a small female team and draw inspiration from nature, be it coast or countryside. We make everything by hand using very simple chandling methods, and rely on our noses and a little bit of maths!

What inspired your Kettle’s Yard candles?

Our Pot Pourri candle was inspired by Jim Ede’s pot pourri recipe, which was uncovered during the restoration of Kettle’s Yard. We have blended a mix of sandalwood, which is earthy and reminiscent of Jim’s travels in India, with some more botanical notes such as rosemary, which we grow at our studio. The finished scent is designed to be unusual to mirror Jim and Helen’s life, and of course the ceramic votive is beautiful and reusable.

Do you have a favourite item in the Kettle’s Yard Shop?

Brie Harrison prints. They always make me smile.

Do you have a favourite candlemaker / artist, past or present?

We collaborated with Linder Sterling on a range of scented products for her recent exhibition ‘Linderism‘ at Kettle’s Yard, so it has to be Linder for her unique style and fearless expression.
