September was a very busy month for our off site programme. Horizons an exhibition at the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings opened on 12 September and on Sunday 27 September it was ‘On Your Doorstep’ our one day exhibition and celebration of art works and objects from Kettle’s Yard together with things made and found in North Cambridge.
While the site is being prepared for the building work proper to begin we have been busy looking at samples of everything from lighting to flooring, countertops and signage. We’ve also been poring over the room plans checking the locations and specifications for fitted items such as welcome desks, lockers and cupboards. All of these decisions are based on staff expertise, advice and research. It has meant that every museum or gallery we go to we’re found looking in detail at the welcome desks, signs and sometimes even the loos.
It’s a very busy time on Kettle’s Yard, Castle Street site with contractors coming and going all day visiting the site so that they can finalise the packages. In London Andrew Nairne, Director and Cherie Evans, Head of Operations are having many meetings with the architect Jamie Fobert to make sure every detail is agreed.
